SUMAN WITH A TWIST
Pinoys just love to eat. Isa sa mga pinakamasarap na staple dessert natin ay ang Suman (native rice cakes), made of malagkit na bigas (glutinous rice) coconut milk, brown sugar and salt wrapped in banana leaves, is not only a simple delicacy but is also prepared differently recently.
Ang suman na ito ay pinirito. Ang outer layer nito ay crispy pero ang inner rice layers ay malambot pa rin as suman should be. This is popular in places like Batangas, Marinduque at marami pang lugar sa Pilipinas. Ito rin ay magandang pares sa mainit na tsokolate or kapeng barako (Batangas coffee).
Marami ang mga klase ng rice cakes or suman sa Pilipinas. Particularly, in Batangas, suman are stored in a large woven trays called the bilao when being sold in the public market. With fried suman, masarap kainin ito hindi lang pang merienda, pang anu mang oras sa buong araw.
Warren comments: In Pampanga, may tawag silang suman bulagta and it is stickier than the regular suman and we dip it with sugar.
Wayne comments: I’m ready to eat kahit anong klaseng suman yan. Pero syempre mas masarap kung fried suman siya.
ISLAND HOPPING GETAWAY
The heat is on. The summer is in. Sa sobrang init ng summer sa Pinas, the best way to beat the summer heat is to go for a cool island hopping such as a famous small fishing village in San Antonio, Zambales called Pundaquit. Island hopping brings a different feeling and aura for every island that captures distinctive mountainous scenery, interesting rock formation and the inviting blue waves pounding the shores. Ang mga magandang attractions nila rito ay ang Capones and Camara island, Anawangin at Nagsasa Cove. Mara-ming mga activities na pweding gawin tulad ng camping, fishing, surfing at syempre island hopping. Small and big motor boats are readily available depending on the number of people. Ang kagandahan dito lahat ng mga island ay mukhang unexplored, mukhang very intimate and private na talagang ma-appreciate mo ang breath-taking rock landscape, the crystal-clear blue waves and smooth beige sand.
Warren comments: Why be contented with just one island where you could do island hopping in several islands and coves, right? Iba kasi ang feeling ng riding a motor boat to a series of small islands - the sense of connecting adventures!
Wayne comments: Medyo nakakalungkot lang na isa sa downfall na nakita ko is the lack of respect of local tourists sa ibang spots na unwanted litter. The place is beautiful so sana people should be more caring with their environment.
